User Preferences

You can set several user preferences in Sentinel FM to help you save time and have a familiar work environment every time you log in.

In the User Preferences section, you can set your time zone, units of measurement, default fleet, change your password, and more.

It’s a good idea to review and modify these settings, especially as you familiarize yourself with Sentinel FM.

Here’s how to review and edit your preferences:

  1. In the top menu, click User Preferences.
  2. You can now see all your current settings, but you cannot change any values until you click Edit Preferences at the bottom of the section.

Now, change your preferences as desired. All available settings are described below – use this list as a reference if you’re not sure what a particular setting does.

  1. Click English or Français to change the application’s language. This applies to almost all sections of Sentinel FM.
  2. Select a Map Type. This applies to the Map (new) section.
  3. Select your Time Zone. This allows the system to display your local time.
  4. Select whether to display distance information in Kilometers or Miles.
  5. Select whether to display liquid measurements in Litres or Gallons. This is typically used by winter operations users when tracking material usage.
  6. Select the Default Fleet that will be shown in the Map (new) section. This is only applicable when using the Fleet structure.
  7. Enable the Map Assets checkbox to automatically plot all your assets/vehicles in the Map (new) section.
  8. Enable the Load Landmark by Default checkbox to automatically plot all your landmarks in the Map (new) section.
  9. Configure Vehicle Clustering. This feature automatically groups vehicles in the same geographical area with a single icon, and is useful when managing large fleets. This applies to the Map (new) section.
    1. Enable the checkbox to use this feature.
    2. Set the threshold distance, in pixels, to group vehicles. Note that clustering uses the same distance when you zoom in or out, meaning that fewer vehicles will be grouped as you zoom in.
    3. Set the minimum number of vehicles to group. If there are less than the selected number of vehicles in an area, they will not be grouped (and will be shown as individual icons).
  10. Set the Screen refresh frequency. This is how quickly the Map (new) screen automatically refreshes vehicle information.
  11. Enable the Show read messages checkbox to show messages marked as read in the Messages section. This only applies to vehicles equipped with Garmin devices.
  12. Set the Asset Utilization Threshold. This is the length of time that a vehicle has not reported before it’s displayed as N/A in the Status column of the Map (new) section. If you don’t want to use this feature, enable the None checkbox.
  13. Set the Alarm/Message refresh frequency for the alarms and messages shown in the Alarms and Messages sections.
  14. Using the Map Screen View radio buttons, select whether to display Alarms, Messages, both, or none as tabs in the vehicle grid at the bottom of the Map section.
  15. Enable the Show Map Grid Filter checkbox to enable the search filter in the vehicle grid at the bottom of the Map section. This allows you to search and filter your fleet by various information columns, such as box ID, current address, and vehicle status.
  16. Select your Date format and Time format from the two drop-down menus.
  17. Enable the Display Label on Map by Default checkbox to automatically show all vehicle description labels (above each vehicle’s icon) in the Map (new) section.
  18. Enable the checkbox to Show Retired Vehicles in the list of vehicles in the Administration section.
  19. Select your Default Map View. This affects how the map in Map (new) is displayed.
  20. By default, the Home page is loaded when you log in. However, you can enable the Remember Last Page checkbox to load the page you were on when you last logged out.
  21. In the Vehicle Not Reported for X Days text field, enter a threshold number of days that a vehicle has not reported. This value is then used in the Events section, where you can look for vehicles that have not reported within the set number of days.
  22. In the Load Vehicles Based On drop-down menu, select either Fleet or Organization Hierarchy. This determines how groups of vehicles are displayed throughout the system.
  23. Search for and select a Default Organization Hierarchy. Note that this only applies if you have Organization Hierarchy selected in the Load Vehicles Based On drop-down (described in #22 above).
  24. Enable the Do not show private landmarks checkbox to hide landmarks that are categorized as “private”.

IMPORTANT: If you have made any changes, remember to click Save Preferences.
