Creating a Landmark

Landmarks are geographic areas that are stored in the Sentinel FM database. Sentinel FM can detect when your vehicles cross landmark borders, and can then perform predefined actions such as sending email notifications or changing an address on the map screen to a location name.

Landmarks can be circles or multi-sided polygons.

Here’s how to create a circular landmark:

  1. On the Map (new) screen’s toolbar, click the Add a landmark circle icon.
  2. On the map itself, do either of the following:
    • Click and drag from the center to the outside of the landmark, or;
    • Click the center of the landmark, and then in the dialog, manually enter a radius (in meters).
  3. In the dialog that appears, enter any information about the landmark. Mandatory fields are denoted by an asterisk (*).
  4. Click Save.

Here’s how to create a multi-sided polygon landmark, useful for irregular shapes such as loading zones, malls, parks, lumber yards, and so on.

  1. On the Map (new) screen’s toolbar, click the polygonal landmark icon.
  2. Click once on the map to start the landmark.
  3. Click once more to create a new point/corner. There is no limit to the number of points.
  4. To finalize the landmark, double-click at the last point.
  5. In the dialog that appears, enter any information about the landmark. Mandatory fields are denoted by an asterisk (*).
  6. Click Save.
