Creating a Hierarchy

If your organization already uses an internal hierarchy with a cost center structure to categorize vehicles, you can create a corresponding hierarchy in Sentinel FM. You can then assign vehicles in your fleet to their corresponding cost center, give users access to different cost centers, run cost center-based reports, and more.

Before creating a hierarchy, you need the following prerequisite Excel spreadsheets:

The first spreadsheet is a hierarchy file and must be in the format shown to the right:

Notes:

  • The COST_CENTER column is the node code and has a 10-character limit.
  • The COST_CENTER column must only contain characters and numbers (no spaces, symbols, or parentheses).

The second spreadsheet describes vehicle assignments and must be in the format shown to the right:

Once you have the spreadsheets ready, here’s how to create a hierarchy in Sentinel FM:

First, you need to create the hierarchy:

  1. In the top menu, click Administration > Organization > Hierarchy Import.
  2. Click Choose File.
  3. Navigate to the hierarchy Excel file and then select it.
  4. Click Submit.

Next, you need to assign vehicles to the hierarchy:

  1. In the top menu, click Administration > Organization > Hierarchy Assignment Import.
  2. Click Choose File.
  3. Navigate to the vehicle assignment Excel spreadsheet and then select it.
  4. (Optional) Enter the date and time when the file’s assignments will become active in the system. Leaving this field blank will default to the current date.
  5. Click Submit.
